Medical Team- Day 1, 2 and 3!

Thursday, September 14th   Tomorrow is Guatemala’s Independence Day. They became a nation separate from the rest of Central America in 1821. We witnessed the celebrations that began last night on our arrival into Guatemala City with the Torch Run. The streets were lined with runners, many carrying torches, and the traffic volume was crazy for 10:30 pm on a Thursday night … bumper to bumper for miles! Many trucks were filled with revelers:

Team Update

We are a medical team from New Brunswick, Canada. Team members include Jolene W., Amanda M., Stephanie L., Janel R., Keltie K., Kaitlyn S., Pam T., and Stephanie W. Sorry for the delay on our daily blog, the internet has been quite an issue to get a signal. We arrived on Tuesday around 10pm and started separating our medications for a clinic early the next day. Morning 1 started off with a tasty breakfast of pancakes and fruit and then off to the

Another Great Day!

Day eight of our adventure began much like the rest – up early (although not quite as early) and into the shower. After breakfast (lovingly prepared by our amazing cook, Carmen), we headed to the Center to put on a clinic for the sponsored children and their families. More than 140 people turned out to receive aid that we take for granted in Canada, but would otherwise be prohibitively expensive here. Now, the team has the privilege of meeting

Day 5

Greetings from Guatemala. Another successful day here in Parramos. We saw 240 patients in two clinics. We travelled this morning to Cajagualten, a small community in the mountains near Parramos. This is a beautiful village with stunning views of the valleys and mountains. The people are hard working farmers who struggle daily to make a living. The families are large, as are most here. We do what we can to help and the villagers are very grateful

Team Update

Today started with taking a beautiful scenic tour to the little town surrounded by volcanoes called Caladeras. There we were greeted with the smiles of the school children as they were starting gym class. We opened the doors to the community center where we saw all kinds of family dynamics. Grandmothers being the mother for the second time, and young women taking care of the little ones. Every single one of those people were beyond grateful for the

The work continues

Hola Loving Arms friends; We have had a very interesting day here in Guatemala. Our morning began with a hearty breakfast and a short trip to our first medical clinic in the village of San Lorenzo. We had a very busy clinic and saw over 150 patients. This is a large community and there are a lot of children. We were blessed to offer what little we could. Once again, the people are so grateful here to have a chance to talk to someone about their issues.
