The Bigger Picture
Today was a beautiful day in Guatemala. Our group started the day working around the Center of Hope so we could ready the grounds for the school to open in January. Kaci, Schafer, and Olivia helped clean the Center of Hope to get the building ready for VBS that we will host on Thursday. Maggie Pate, Caroline, and Bailey started their morning off my planting grass that was originally dug up to expand the Volunteer housing and was transplanted to keep the grounds beautiful. In the greenhouses this morning were Sarah and Chandler helping Jose prepare the garden while Kelsey, Anna Claire, and Mary Madeline (and Giovanni!) cleared some land.
Although these tasks seem small, they are all aiding in helping the big picture for Loving Arms. Just as Moses led the Israelites to the Promised Land yet never got to experience all of God’s promises, Moses never stopped trusting that God had a bigger purpose. So in the midst of labor that isn’t always something we are comfortable with, we never let our tiredness overcome the Will of God, as we believe our efforts this week are just a small portion of promises He has given to us.
After lunch our team traveled to the village of Parrojas that sits 8,000 feet above sea level. (Fun Fact: Parrojas is a village that Loving Arms has worked with the longest.) We prepared the story of Jericho to share with the children and their moms. First, we talked about the armor of God and how it is our strength against the Devil, just as the Israelites had strength in the midst of the battle at Jericho.
We taught the children about the Armor of God, with the Sword of the Spirit being the Bible, the Shield of faith being the assurance that you will be protected from the works of evil, and the Belt of Truth holding the entire body armor together. We as Christians have been trained to take on the battle of the evil that dwells in the world.
It was a great day, but we are all tired! We cannot wait to spend time with the preschoolers in the morning!
“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil” Ephesians 6: 10-11
