Mushrooms Galore

With the success of our Mushroom Farm Pilot program that we started in Feb., we have since had meetings with families from Paraxaj to start their own.  They attended training on the steps needed to start their own business.  They took over the building we had prepared, on the property, for the pilot and in approximately 15-20 days we will start to see the first signs of the new mushrooms.

We have a second building that the most recent team prepared for a second mushroom farm which will be run by the families of Chitaburuy.  This is also on our property and yesterday they prepared their corn, soaking it in lime, letting it dry with the next step to make a pyramid in plastic bags that hang from the ceiling.

For the pilot we had 8 bags growing and each of the new farms will have between 20 and 25 bags.

The families are very attentive to their farms and are also very happy with the opportunity to have an income generating initiative that will eventually provide additional funds for their children’s food, clothing and other essential needs.
