Blog Update – October 02, 2018

Today, Tuesday, we did 2 clinics. The first, La Hermita was a small village that had been displaced in a land slide several years ago. There are approximately 110 residents in this village. It is located in a lovely setting at the edge of a cliff. We set up in their church that had a beautifully decorated pulpit to welcome us. This is a very impoverished village without running water, that only receives shipments of water every three days. We assessed

Today was International Children’s Day.  This day is celebrated in Guatemala. The city of Parramos, where our clinic was had a huge celebration.  The clinic today was in a church. The health issues that were commonly seen were parasites, diabetes, cold and coughs. The team saw a total of 307 patients. We had a great lunch at the Centre of Hope. The children who were in school loved seeing us to practice their English. It was very nice to see

Tuesday June 16, 2015 – Day 3

Today started off with cereal and milk (delivered fresh to the door) and then headed off to the Hope Center. There we saw 200+ people. There were many many people that pulled on our heart strings, and we all needed a few minutes to collect ourselves. Our afternoon consisted of teaching nursing students respiratory assessments, mom and babe clinic, dehydration an CPR. They were so intuitive and full of questions. What a great assets these people will

Medical Care – The Guatemala Experience

Guatemala’s Constitution states that health care is a basic right for all. However, the tragic reality is that not all Guatemalans have the access to health care. Firstly, Loving Arms wants to thank the generous individuals who have already given so much support to us in reaching our goal of setting up Medical Clinics run by Canadian nurses as well as training and workshops to help equip local health professionals. However, these Guatemalan health

November 16th, 2013 – Day 8

On our last clinic day in Parramos, we saw 271 people in 4 hours. Can you say productive? Since we were again in Alpha Y Omega church, it was nice to see familiar faces. We ran out of certain medication and supplies but managed to work our way through it. Among all the different cases we saw one patient that struck us the most. He had a wound on his arm that was infected 6 days ago. We all worked as a team to clean and debride it. The little boy

November 15th, 2013 – Day 7

We started our day with a fresh clinic in Corrales. We saw 101 patients today. Our medication supply is starting to dwindle but we were still able to help every family. In the afternoon we visited our adopted family (we painted their house earlier this week). We brought them some furniture: a bed, pillows, a chest, pots, pans, utensils, etc. Each member of our team had brought individual items for each family member such as clothes, toys, sanitary

November 14th, 2013 – Day 6

Today, we were up bright and early for breakfast. Three of us went to teach CPR to some children at the school in Paraxaj. We taught CPR and choking to about 30 children, with hands-on practice. Meanwhile, the other six went to a church at La Herimte for a clinic and saw 121 patients. With less workers, it was very busy. We saw some "Shark Pain" which was actually sharp pain. Funny how one letter can make a big difference in the meaning. After the

Water Filter Program

Loving Arms has the pleasure of being able to help another organization from El Salvador by teaching them how to build Water Filters. Clean, safe and reliable water sources are a huge problem in the areas where Loving Arms serves.  Water-borne illnesses are common throughout all of our families.  In response to this issue, Loving Arms partners with another organization to provide Bio-Sand Water Filters.  The families all provide assistance
