Shantz Team Update – Feb 16, 2016

Sunday dawned clear and warm with many tourists in town to view a processional as part of the Lenten season celebration. Work continues on building the next classroom, with Jose, Brian, Mack and Ron laying blocks, repairing electrical service and digging the pit for a relocated septic tank.

Wednesday morning we woke up to begin our day with the kids again and are already in love with them and the routine here at the school.

On Sunday, November 29, a wonderful graduation service was provided by Pastor Oswaldo (the first person to help Linda Coghlin deliver the first few food packages to our sponsored children - only 2-3 at the time and now we have over 250). Loving Arms celebrated the educational success of three very special women, Dora Hermelinda Juaria, Reina Marisol Velasquez, and Carmen Sanjay Bernardino. Their years of hard work and commitment have paid off, and

It has been a really wonderful week here in Guatemala! Every day has been full of new, different experiences. At the beginning of the week, I began going with Alejandra, the Child Sponsorship Director, to interview children for Preschool 2017. All of these children are three years old, and the hope is that we will be able to find sponsors for them soon so that they can begin receiving monthly food packages until they start school. These 20 children
