Team Update – November 2017

Here's the latest on what our most recent volunteer team has been up to on their trip down to Guatemala! The team's first event was to attend the graduation of the kindergartners to Grade 1. It was an eye opening day at the Centre of Hope where each graduate had multiple family members on hand to celebrate their big day with them. It was also a chance for Loving Arms President Linda Coghlin and Guatemalan Director Alicia Mendez to acknowledge the

Thank You!

Loving Arms would like to thank the team of Barb, Jeff, Fern, Leslie Ann, Cindy, and Tamara. During their time in Guatemala, they helped set up health clinics for locals, medical workshops for nursing students, as well as participating in our adopt-a-home program. Their hard work was not unnoticed as they aided more sick people per nurse than any other medical team we've ever had! We only had three nurses in the clinics while others worked in the

Golf Tournament – SUCCESS!

A huge THANK YOU for your support and attendance during the 2017 Annual Golf Tournament fundraiser for Loving Arms.  The event was a huge success netting over $22,000 for Loving Arms, which was above our aggressive target of $20,000. One of the big helpers this year were the donors who put up their hands to donate funds for teachers, books and computers.  Thank you very much. If you donated and would like a Charitable Donation Tax Receipt please

Blog Update – Monday, September 18th

Today we began taking medical clinics into the surrounding villages. It was quite an adventure. The morning clinic was to be held at a church which sits at the edge of a cliff in La Hermita. Unfortunately for a variety of reasons, and despite a back-up plan, we could not get a key to the church and so after an hour of waiting, the team ended up holding the clinic in the community leader’s house amidst chickens and hanging laundry. Fortunately,

Blog Update – Sunday, September 17th

Today was a heavenly day. We began with a visit to Valhalla Macadamia Nut Farm. In Viking mythology, Valhalla is akin to paradise or a heavenly home. The farm lived up to its name being both beautiful and peaceful -- a wonderful place for the team to rejuvenate after our first 3 days of travel and work. It was also very educational. Who knew that the Macadamia Nut tree flowers and produces fruit at the same time; or that it converts twice as

Trip Update – Linda Coghlin

My first day in Guatemala has been very busy. From early in the morning we started at the school with the celebration of 196 years of Independence of Guatemala. We had a very entertaining morning, all the children participated in different civic activities. After the civic act we started with rally games where the children and their parents played together. At the end of the rally, we continued with a torch run and we celebrated the freedom of Guatemala!

Isaac Machry – Thank You!!

On behalf of Loving Arms, we would like to thank Isaac Machry for these two weeks that he was in Guatemala as a volunteer. Having Isaac's help was very gratifying for both our children and our staff. Isaac spent every morning assisting the English teacher. In the afternoons he helped in different activities such as making teaching material for the day. He also worked on the reports that will soon be sent to the sponsors. During his time here, he
