March 10th, 2018 – Food Distribution

On Saturday, March 10th we held our monthly food distribution. All of the families that are part of this program from Corrales, Parrojas, Paraxaj, Chitaburuy, and Parramos attended this month's distribution at our Centre of Hope. This month we were joined by the Connexus Team. They helped packed the food and some members of the team even shared their own testimony. The team also prepared games and a skit for the children. While the children were

Blog Update – Sunday, September 17th

Today was a heavenly day. We began with a visit to Valhalla Macadamia Nut Farm. In Viking mythology, Valhalla is akin to paradise or a heavenly home. The farm lived up to its name being both beautiful and peaceful -- a wonderful place for the team to rejuvenate after our first 3 days of travel and work. It was also very educational. Who knew that the Macadamia Nut tree flowers and produces fruit at the same time; or that it converts twice as

This morning the building team finished construction on the walls and windows and delivered them to the house. While they were delivering the walls, the family we are building the house for watched with smiles and anticipation of their new home. It is so exciting to see the house coming together. We then had the most exhilarating bus ride to the village of Parrojas. The view from the top of the mouton was most beautiful as you could see the many

September 29, 2016 – Team Update

We spent the fifth day in Guatemala high in the mountains in the village of Parrojas. We treated women and children at the local public school. Once again we see that children are children no matter where they live. They played, ran, teased each other and grinned at us shyly. The women work hard, cooking and cleaning, carrying heavy packages on their backs and heads – no wonder they appreciate the support we offer! After lunch we brought craft supplies

June 18, 2015 – Day 5

Today started with fresh toast and fresh fruit and then we hopped on the bus to Parrojas where we treated 140 people. We were set up in a church at the top of a mountain. This is the highest village we will be going to! Amazing view but you can certainly feel the high altitude. After lunch we headed to Chitaburuy and set up at the school. We have been blessed with 3 wonderful translators, Iris, Monica and Jonathan, they are a wonderful addition

May 20, 2015 – Day 3

The Bigger Picture Today was a beautiful day in Guatemala.  Our group started the day working around the Center of Hope so we could ready the grounds for the school to open in January. Kaci, Schafer, and Olivia helped clean the Center of Hope to get the building ready for VBS that we will host on Thursday.  Maggie Pate, Caroline, and Bailey started their morning off my planting grass that was originally dug up to expand the Volunteer housing and

November 12, 2014 – Day 4

As we sit here to write about our day in Guatemala, we have had many tears as we reflect on all we have seen, heard and touched. It is obvious that every one of us on the team have been deeply moved by these people and we feel we cannot do enough for them. On a positive note we have seen more people than anticipated but on the down side we are running short on medications, especially vitamins for adults and children which they badly need. This morning

Thanks to Betty and Her Team!

Well the East-meets-West group had a great week. Some of these people met each other for the first time but all seemed to gel and a great deal of work was accomplished. 32 suitcases of donations were sorted and stored. Items ranged from school supplies to clothes to building materials and supplies for co-ops. The team taught sewing lessons (making a small purse) to women from Chitaburuy. The women from La Hermita were given a lesson introducing
