Isaac Machry – Blog Update

Buenos noches everyone! I don’t know if I spelled that right but it’s supposed to mean good evening. I think. Anyways I am back with another blog and I am actually writing this the same night I wrote my last blog so if the spelling is really bad on this blog then there is my excuse. This blog will be covering my day off from work on Sunday and my work day on Monday! My day off on Sunday started off like a normal Sunday at home with church in

Guatemala Mission Trip

Some of you are aware that Joyce and I have a close association with Guatemala through the Loving Arms Mission. We will be leading a mission trip to Guatemala to serve the Loving Arms Mission at their Centre of Hope in Parramos from Saturday, February 13 to Sunday, Feb 21, 2016. This is a great experience for those who have never been on a short term mission trip. The purpose of this trip is to make an eternal difference to the community

Weekly Summary – Week of November 15, 2015

It has been a really wonderful week here in Guatemala! Every day has been full of new, different experiences. At the beginning of the week, I began going with Alejandra, the Child Sponsorship Director, to interview children for Preschool 2017. All of these children are three years old, and the hope is that we will be able to find sponsors for them soon so that they can begin receiving monthly food packages until they start school. These 20 children

Graduation Time

As most of you now know, the school year in Guatemala runs mid-January until mid-October. So another school year has come and gone. Like all parents and families, Loving Arms would like to celebrate the success of three members of our family. All three individuals have been part of our Scholarship Program that assists students beyond grade 6. They have all successfully completed the final three years of secondary education. These individuals have

November 5th, 2015 – Team Kelsey – Day 2

I started today with a new role: bus driver assistant/director of the craziest carpool ever.  Like yesterday morning, I rode into Parramos with Carlos at 7:30 to pick the children up for school.  Unlike yesterday morning, I was the one in charge of calling out the children’s names to board the bus.  I already know most of the children by name, so I wasn’t worried about that part of the process, but I was a bit apprehensive for a couple of

Spring Flowers – For Mother’s Day!

The weatherman says that spring is coming. The grower says everything is on track and he will have beautiful flowering available for Mother's Day giving. These baskets will look great hanging in your front yard or off your back patio. They will look awesome transplanted into containers. Buying these baskets will help us help those in need of an education in Guatemala. The spring flowers available are a hanging basket with geraniums and trailing flowers.

February 16, 2015 – Day 8

The team started the day by continuing to build the concrete wall that surrounds the Loving Arms' Centre of Hope. This wall adds a measure of security for when the Centre becomes a school for the children and was only made possible through generous donations. There are still portions of the Centre perimeter that needs this concrete wall so further donations are always graciously accepted.   This afternoon was special because it was the first

February 11, 2015- Day 3

Another wonderful and successful day here in Guatemala, continuing our work on the wall at the Centre of Hope Progress is continuing successfully and we were even able to save a tree that was right on the property line by transplanting it. Looking forward to the finish line tomorrow - the end of this section of the wall is finally in sight   Several meetings took place at the Centre of Hope as work continues on our school board application to ensure

March 12, 2014 – Day 3

Hola Readers!!! Day 3 in Guats has been superb. The weather was scorching hot which is nice compared to your -15 degree temperature. We started the morning with a nice scrambled egg breaky that Carmen cooked for us (her food is incredible). Then we headed to Chitaburuy, which is the smallest school we will visit. It had around 20 kids aged 2-8. We did our VBS which included Spanish songs, a skit, games and bracelet making for crafts. Afterwards,
